I thought it would be fun to put together a post where you could get to know me a little better, and maybe have a few times where you go "I'm not the only one?!" If you read something where you think to yourself, "SAME!" comment and let me know! Here we go...
1. Who is your hero?
My husband. I swear up and down that he is the purest soul I've ever met. He always does the right thing. He loves people so wholeheartedly and sacrificially, and is just the kindest man alive. He makes me want to be a better human better every day.
2. What is your enneagram?
I'm an enneagram 2w3...like, to the core. If you haven't heard of the enneagram or don't know what your number is, I cannot recommend the book The Road Back To You enough. Seriously, a life changing tool when it comes to self-awareness and understanding and loving the people around you well!
3. What do you do for work?
I work in commercial insurance! I interned for the company I work at now right out of community college, was hired out of my internship program, and have been there ever since!
4. Greatest life advice you could offer?
Don't assume, ASK. This goes for EVERYTHING: work, relationships, everything! Don't assume or expect others to meet your un-communicated expectations. Communicate what you need. Say what you feel. People aren't mind readers! The same conversely applies: don't assume you know what other people are feeling or thinking--ask them (you aren't a mind reader, either)! Communicate, communicate, communicate!!
5. What did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
Anyone who knows me knows I am a HUGE nerd when it comes to marine mammals! So random but true haha! I always wanted to be a marine biologist growing up, and still am super passionate about anything that lives in the water. Obviously, I'm not a marine biologist, so I just use my knowledge to nerd out whenever I go to the aquarium.
6. Best trip you've ever been on?
This is a tough one. I'm tempted to say our honeymoon to Vail, CO, because that trip was an absolute DREAM, but my gut tells me to say Zack and I's trip to Bonita Springs, FL. It was our first trip together and we just had the most ridiculously fun time just being together, falling in love, and eating insanely good food. Also, he took me to this place called "Manatee Park" which was just like heaven on earth for me.
7. Biggest fear?
Saying something that really hurts someones feelings.
8. Love language?
Are you allowed to say all of them?! HAHA I love love--giving and receiving! I'm a super affectionate person, so I'd say words of affirmation is my No. 1, but quality time is a very close second!
9. How did you feel on your wedding day?
Absolute peace. (I'm sure I'll do a longer blog post, or a few, on just wedding stuff because there is just so much to talk about!) But the thing that was so beautiful about our wedding day was the peace that it was marked by. I had no fear, no anxiety--just a calmness and sureness in knowing that there was not a doubt in my mind that this was the man I wanted to give my all to for forever. When the day came, I didn't care about the decorations, my hair or makeup, my dress--nothing but getting to walk down that aisle and marry my best friend!
10. What made you want to start a blog?
There is a test that my counselor told me about called the Thinking Wavelength Assessment. She told me that it's a test that they administer to employees of Disney World to see where they lie on the creativity scale so that they could be assigned to the right type of job to reach their fullest potential. I scored a 9.5/10 on the test--essentially meaning that I am someone who is a super out-of-the-box thinker who NEEDS a creative outlet. I love, love, love all things home decor, beauty, fashion, lifestyle and have always dreamed of starting a blog of my own. Taking that test was the push I needed to give me the courage to actually get out there and start chasing my dream, and not just dreaming of it!
11. Advice you'd give to your younger self?
Oh, gosh. What WOULDN'T I want to say! Honestly, so many things come to mind, but above all of the things I'd say, I'd rather go back and just give a younger version of myself a hug. I wouldn't condemn her or lecture her, I'd just want to be with her and speak some hope and life into her. We all could use that when we're young--it's hard figuring out who you want to be, and sacrificing to get there.
12. Best way to help a friend going through a hard time?
Just be there. We often shy away from situations where someone is in crisis just because we feel like we can't find the right things to say. When someone is truly hurting, they don't need another lecture or another person's opinion to add to the array of things they've already heard. They just need a friend, a listening ear, someone to be present with them. Give them a hug, write them a card, go get some ice cream with them. Let them talk if they need to talk. Just be there.
13. Best friendship advice?
Learn your friends. Then love them how THEY need to be loved, now how YOU want to be loved. Learn their love language, learn their enneagram number; learn how they feel most special and spend time intentionally giving them love in the way they receive it.
14. Best relationship advice?
Cherish your person. Never let a day go by where you don't acknowledge how special they are to you, and how special they are as a person. Life is too short to hold back love--give it all away, and give it all away freely. Don't keep score or let resentment pile up. Show them how much you love them, tell them how special they are, and then never stop doing it.
15. Favorite quote?
"Next to grace, I bet God thinks making us need each other was one of His best ideas." -Bob Goff
16. Favorite hobby?
I love all things outdoor and all things where I can MOVE: working out, running, dancing, biking! But honestly I worked on this blog for months behind the scenes before I launched it, and this has very quickly become my favorite hobby. I absolutely love having a creative outlet and even if no one ever reads anything I write, it brings me so much joy to just do something I love so much! So, if you're reading this right now, thank you for believing in me! :)
17. Your ideal day?
Oooo. Okay so sleep in, have a nice slow morning with my husband sitting and sipping coffee and spending quiet time in the Word together. Then going to the gym together, walking our pup, probably going window shopping, and going out to dinner somewhere local. I'm a girl of simple pleasures, really. I just love a nice, slow day and some good quality time.
18. Introvert or extrovert?
Extrovert!! But I always say, "I shine bright, but not long." Haha. I loveee meeting new people and making new friends and at any party I will be the one talking to a complete stranger. But once my social battery drains I am OUT.
19. How did you meet your husband?
Before I met Zack, I met Katie. Katie (Zack's sister) and I both randomly went to this Bible study once on Valentine's Day of 2018. She tells me now that she stalked me HARD to find my Facebook page--haha! But once she did, she messaged me saying "I hope this doesn't sound creepy BUT I feel super drawn to you!" A little while later, she told her brother about this girl named Jenny...Zack and I connected, fell in love HARD, and now I have two best friends: the one I'm married to and the sister I gained! :-)
20. Favorite song right now?
This changes almost daily. But there are two I know will always be top in my heart because of the sentimental value they hold. I get instant tears when I listen to the song I walked down the aisle to, "The Wedding Song" by Matthew Mole. And my heart will always explode when I hear "Home" by Tori Deal. On our wedding day Zack made me a video that makes me SOB every time I watch it; and this was the song he used. "Home" has always been our song and this cover is just perfect.
